St Mary & St Thomas’ Teaching School has developed an exciting and forward thinking School Direct programme aimed at recruiting and training high quality, aspiring primary school teachers. On completion of the programme, our trainees are sought after by employees both within our Alliance and beyond, due to the reputation which we have established. As one of only 32 Maths hubs in the country, we are able to provide outstanding training at the forefront of developments in Education. This means that our trainees receive the best possible training.

Working in partnership with Liverpool Hope University we provide our trainees with a strong school-centred postgraduate route into teaching but with the added benefit of studying for a Masters level for a Postgraduate Certificate as well.

In the last three years we have successfully trained 50 students with 100% employment rate and we have recruited 13 trainees to begin in September 2017. Due to the success of the programme we are now able to offer placements for 60 trainees to begin in September 2018, in 52 placement schools across St.Helens, Wigan, Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley and Bolton. We are therefore able to provide a wide range of experiences and employment opportunities.

Trainees on our School Direct programme will be allocated a school in our Alliance, all of which are outstanding or good. The majority of time will be spent in a ‘home’ school with additional teaching in an ‘away’ school in the Alliance. We offer a personalised training approach and therefore the location of your home school will be taken into consideration.

The taught element of our School Direct programme will be delivered by outstanding and specialised trainers from our teaching School partnership – Headteachers, Specialist Leaders in Education, experienced consultants and outstanding practitioners. The teaching at Masters Level will be delivered by Liverpool Hope.

This is a fabulous route into teaching with us equipping our trainees with the experience and skills needed to become outstanding teachers.
