Behaviour management training sessions for lunchtime supervisors

The St Helens TSA would like to invite all lunchtime supervisors to attend the following training sessions:

  • De – escalation strategies. To take place on Thursday 19th October, 8.45-11.00am at the World of Glass, St Helens.
  • Positive Playtime Activities ( for Lunchtime Organisers and any other staff involved on the playground) This is an active and physical course where the games will be demonstrated. Delegates will be expected to get involved. Trainers and sports clothing will be needed to be worn. To take place on: Thursday 30th November, 9.00- 11.15am at Peter Street Community Centre, Peter St, Saint Helens WA10 2EQ.

This will be led by Jason Bangbala. Jason is a leading Educational Consultant, delivering his unique style of training to organisations across the UK. As well as training courses and consultancy work, he continues to be an active classroom practitioner. He has delivered training for the St Helens TSA at all levels – School Direct, NQTs, Teachers and Leaders within the last 12 months and continues to work with our partnership.

All the training courses are practical, interactive and highly engaging. Some of the most commonly used words or phrases from people who have experienced Jason’s training include: Inspirational, realistic and motivating!

The cost of this training is £50 per delegate, per session this will include: course materials and tea/coffee/biscuits.

English CPD Opportunities Autumn 2017

The St Helens TSA would like to invite all teachers and English SLs to participate in the following English opportunities coming this ½ term.

CLIMB- An approach to teaching and assessing reading in literacy and cross curricular. ‘CLIMB’ will give delegates ideas to revamp guided reading sessions linked to the new AFs and Reading assessment documents.  Staff will be given question mats to support teaching reading and have the opportunity to create their own within the session. Maddy Barnes explained this approach at the HT briefing this week and how it can be used to address the implications of the 2017  tests.

These sessions will take place on:
KS2 teachers (Y3-6)- Friday 13th October, 9.30-12.00pm
KS1 teachers (Y1-2) – Friday 13th October, 1-3.30pm

Early Language and Communication training – How can high quality texts support early language and communication? How do we ensure that young children acquire vocabulary in their early years? A session with books at the heart for delegates to identify meaningful and purposeful activities that promote positive communication.

This session will take place on:
EYFS/Teachers- Thursday 19th October, 9.30-12.00pm

Teaching assistant training- Providing effective support for writing- How to  offer the correct amount of support to the child during the independent writing process- how to assist children in planning, writing, proof reading and editing as part of the Quality First Teaching Session.

This session will take place on:
Teaching assistants/HLTAs- Thursday 19th October, 1.00-3.30pm

Literacy SL network 2017-18

St Helens TSA English CPD 2017-18

All sessions are delivered by Maddy Barnes, Maddy is an experienced teacher and Assistant Head in a school in Manchester. She is on the DfE Teacher Panel for Test Development. Maddy is an experienced KS2 Reading, GPS and Level 6 marker. She is an established author and series editor at Rising Stars (Skills Builders, GPS Practice Papers, NPE and Achieve). She is passionate about using real texts, including high quality picture books, to encourage all pupils to make progress. Maddy has worked with the St Helens TSA since becoming a Teaching school in April 2013 providing high quality training for teaching and non-teaching staff.

A 25% discount will be given to alliance members.
Half day sessions: £70.00 include: Tea/coffee/biscuits and all course resources.

14-30 days: charged at 25%
7 days: charged at 50%
Less than 1 day: Charged at full training rate
