St Helens TSA- English CDP for 2018 -19

The St Helens Teaching School Alliance English Training Programme 2018-19; all training has been arranged in response to the scoping exercises carried out by the alliance, responding to local and National priorities.

The training package includes: (please see attached for further details)

  • Planning for Writing– including fiction and non-fiction and teaching GPS in context: EYFS-Y6.
  • Spelling – KS1 and 2
  • Reading- Pulling the content domains apart and looking at question stems, How to balance test technique and reading for pleasure, Pitching the book a the right level, When are children fluent readers? Recognising strategies to secure this and teaching Vocabulary through text- KS1, LKS2 and UKS2
  • Moderation- Year 2 and 6 (in two parts)
  • Year 2 and 3 Reading for Stamina
  • English- What is Mastery and how do we ensure depth of knowledge? KS1, LKS2 and UKS2
  • Inspiring TAs- providing effective support

In addition to the training listed below we are continuing the termly English subject leader meetings.  The first SLs meeting will Wednesday 7th November, 9:30 – 3.30pm at The World of Glass, St Helens, Chalon Way E, Saint Helens WA10 1BX

The session will focus on:

  • Visiting author: Alison Wilcox (author of Descriptosaurus). Alison will lead a session on writing and vocabulary.
  • Implications  for teaching Post 2018 tests and implications for 2018-19 in KS1 and 2.
  • National Updates on current thinking.

NEW for 2018-19: Excellent English Teacher Programme- These sessions are aimed at excellent English teachers/subject leaders/SLEs/PDLs who have the potential and drive to achieve excellence in English practice and the ability to develop others. The programme will be delivered over 7 sessions (see flyer attached for further details)

Places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Schools that have signed the alliance partnership agreement will receive 25% off all training courses and will receive a ‘free’ place on all the English subject leader network meetings.

Head Teacher Briefing – EYFS update

The St Helens TSA would like to offer all schools, across the NW to attend the following EYFS CPDL sessions:

Head Teacher Briefing – EYFS update

Focus: Bold beginnings document – looking at recommendations, OFSTED update, current landscape and reminders over effective provision. Delivered by: Hayley Wynne- EY2P

To take place on: Wednesday 5th December 2018, 9.30-12.30pm at The St Helens Chamber

Salisbury Street, Off Chalon Way, Saint Helens WA10 1FY.

Cost: FREE to all alliance schools and £50.00 per delegate for non-alliance schools.

EYFS Leadership Network- autumn term session based on summer term feedback will be:

  • To share updates on current national priorities within EYFS; including the findings from the ‘Bold beginnings’ document
  • To provide guidance on monitoring and improving the quality of early years provision, within:
    • Outcomes for Children
    • Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
    • Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare
    • Leadership and Management

The focus for subsequent meetings will be determined based on need and national/local priorities. Please see attached full offer.

St Helens TSA- Primary Computing offer

The St Helens TSA in association with Mako education would like to offer all schools the chance to attend the following sessions:

  • Introduction to Film- Raising Literacy Attainment Through Film – Level One- Thursday 8th November, 9.00am – 3.00pm.
  • Filmmaking for Curricular Attainment- Thursday 22nd November, 9.00am – 3.00pm
  • Stop Motion Animation- Thursday 6th December, 9.00am – 3.00pm

All sessions will take place at St Helens TSA POD, St Mary and St Thomas’ CE Primary School, Barton Close, St Helens, WA10 2HS.

Computing-CPD-autumn-term-2018-19

Target Audience: Computing SLs, Teachers and TAs with an interest/responsibility for computing.

Cost: £100.00 per delegate (Alliance members will receive a 25% discount off the session). This includes: all course materials, refreshments and a light lunch.

Assessment in Foundation Subjects training

The St Helens TSA in association with ECM would like to invite all schools to: Assessment in Foundation subjects training.

Focus:

A 2-hour Time2Train session for leaders at all levels to develop a whole school assessment approach to tracking progress and attainment of all pupils in foundation subjects in a Primary school.

By the end of the sessions you will:

  • have an updated picture of national assessment (progress and attainment) and the implications for accountability in Primary Schools;
  • have an opportunity to reflect upon your school’s own practice in assessment in the foundation subjects and to identify ways forward in light of national accountability measures;
  • have an opportunity to look at effective strategies and tools to take back to school to further develop your current school systems of tracking progress and attainment from Nursery to year 6 in the foundation subjects;
  • a secure understanding of the correct terminology for progress and attainment in order to make evaluative judgements of your own school data;
  • be able to make informed judgements about the progress and attainment of all pupils from their different starting points in school through the completion of a summary assessment document; and have written a succinct assessment summary for your middle leaders, governors and/or Trustees.
