NW Maths Hub 3 would like to invite you to participate in the ‘Excellent Primary Maths Teacher’ programme, this is a 12 month programme. We are offering 30 places, on a first come, first serve basis.
This will be the second year that we have delivered this programme. We received excellent feedback from the last cohort of participants – See flyer for more details: Excellent Maths Teacher Programme 2016-17.
Who is it for?
These sessions are aimed at excellent maths teachers/subject leaders who have the potential and drive to achieve excellence in maths practice and the ability to develop others.
7 full day sessions to include:
- What does outstanding maths practice look like?
- Developing problem solving, reasoning and fluency throughout the primary phase
- SKE and pedagogical understanding of place value, number, calculation, algebra and fractions
- Effective monitoring to determine impact
- Tracking of progress and skills to inform action planning and next steps
- Exploring and developing assessment
- Providing effective feedback
- Lesson structures, planning and questioning
Delegates will be involved in 4 ‘Gap tasks’ linked to practice in their own schools.

Day 2- 8th November 2016
Day 3- 6th December 2016
Day 4- 24th January 2017
Day 5- 8th March 2017
Day 6- 24th May 2017
Day 7- 4th July 2017
Sessions will take place at: Wrightington Hotel and Country Club, Moss Lane, Wigan, Lancashire, WN6 9PB.
All sessions will be delivered/facilitated by Tara Loughran, Tara has extensive experience in schools for leading improvement and change in mathematics. Tara has provided high quality training for the St Helens TSA since becoming at teaching school in 2013; she has inspired lots of teachers and support staff to take her ideas back to the classroom with significant impact. Tara represents NW Maths Hub 3 across the North West and sits on the Executive board.
The cost of this project is: £100 per session, Maths Hub NW will provide additional top up funding to run this project.
This will include: All face-to face sessions, refreshments (including a light lunch) and all course resources for the sessions including gap task materials.

NW Maths Hub 3- led by The St Helens TSA would like to offer all Secondary Newly Qualified Maths Teachers the chance to attend the highly successful NQT Maths Programme.
The programme covers generic planning, organising and engagement tips as well as subject specific pedagogy around number and algebra.
Autumn Term 1: This session will focus on preparing NQT’s for a very busy year with lots of practical tips for planning, organising and managing a smoothly run maths classroom.
Mon 3rd October, 2pm – 5:30pm at Byrchall CPD Centre.
Autumn Term 2: Teaching and Learning session looking at progression, mastery and quality resources for teaching fractions.
Tues 15th November, 2pm – 5:30pm at Rainford High School.
Spring Term 1: This session will focus on behaviour management in the maths classroom. Keeping students engaged and motivated with effective use of brain gym and re-focussing activities.
Mon 16th January, 2pm – 5:30pm at Byrchall CPD Centre.
Spring Term 2: Teaching and Learning session looking at progression, mastery and quality resources for teaching algebra.
Tues 7th March, 2pm – 5:30pm at Rainford High School.
Summer Term 1: Teaching and Learning session looking at embedding problem solving and ways to develop reasoning skills into every lesson.
Mon 8th May, 2pm – 5:30pm at Byrchall CPD Centre.
Summer Term 2: This session will focus on reflecting on the year and top tips for a high impact fresh start for September.
Tues 27th June, 2pm – 5:30pm at Rainford High School.
The programme will be delivered by Lindsay Porter. Lindsay is a former Head of Maths, current teacher and GCSE examiner. She now works as the secondary lead for NW3 Maths Hub as well as being a regional maths advocate for AQA facilitating collaboration between maths teachers and subject leaders across the North West. She believes in a practical approach and is passionate about teaching and learning.
Secondary Schools that have signed the alliance partnership agreement will receive 1 free place.
The full programme would usually cost £360.00 (£60 per session) if booked as a programme/block then you will receive it for £260.00

In July 2014 the DFE released information relating to 35 Maths Hubs which have been set up across the country in order to improve standards of maths education in all phases.
The St Helens Teaching School Alliance was designated as 1 of 35 Maths Hubs nationally. We are the only primary hub in the North West and one of only 6 primary hubs nationally.
