Primary Maths CPD opportunities in spring/summer 2017

NW Maths Hub 3 is offering the following Primary Maths CPD opportunities in spring/summer 2017:

Mathematics Subject Leaders Day 2- Friday 10th March 2017 Focus on the Assessment of Mastery; moderation and standardisation. There will also be an opportunity for quality assurance of Maths practice via NW Maths Hub 3 as they share their experiences from current national practice and policy.

Mathematics Moderation and Standardisation sessions EYFS to Y6: starting March 2017

These sessions will explore what a learner looks like in a year groups. Establish what the key areas of maths are and what this looks like with a depth of understanding. The session will provide an opportunity to build the mathematical toolkit further with new ideas! Teachers will have the opportunity to look at a range of children’s learning in the specific year groups. It will also support teachers to make a summative judgement and then help them plan and adjust teaching for the third term. Sessions are led by experienced moderators and quality assured by NW Maths Hub 3.

There will be a pre-course task and teachers are asked to bring a small selection of children’s books.

PVI/Nursery Practitioners (including schools with Nursery settings) starting March 2017

Maths Everywhere! Practitioners will explore ways of ensuring Maths is everywhere, including ideas for enhanced and continuous provision, adult and child led activities focusing on number, counting and place value.

We will explore: What does intelligent practice look like and how can we ensure depth of learning is happening in a creative setting.

For practitioners: an opportunity to develop subject knowledge, an improved progressional understanding and to explore why language, a ‘can do’ attitude and raised expectations are essential.

Effective Transition from EYFS to Year 1- June 2017

EYFS teachers will work with Year 1 teachers to establish where children are on their mathematical pathway and how we can build on this learning into Year 1. There will be a range of practical ideas to support both year groups.

GCSE Maths Post-16 Resit – CPD

Maths Hubs NW3 Post 16 are hosting a free discussion and networking event on Wednesday 29th March 2017, provisionally at the City of Liverpool College, Clarence Street, L3 5TP for all tutors of GCSE maths RESIT groups.

The aim is for people to be able to share challenges they face teaching these groups (both in the classroom and in the wider context of their college) and teaching approaches they have found which work well for them. We would particularly like to focus on this issue as we believe it may have been neglected in the past for CPD provision and there will be many ideas in circulation that we feel ought to be shared.

Refreshments will be available from 3.00pm, to start at 3.30pm and finish no later than 5pm.

If you would like to attend, I’d be very grateful if you could email Catherine van Saarloos so that we can keep an eye on catering and rooming requirements.

If there are any specific areas that you would like us to focus on then please do get in touch.

I look forward to seeing you at this event.
