NW Maths Hub 3- Teaching Assistant training – FEW places remaining

Are your support staff prepared for 2018-19? Do they have a good understanding of the role they play in a ‘Mastery lesson’?

Do they feel confident when helping to meet the needs of all learners in maths lessons?

NW Maths Hub 3 are running a Teaching Assistant Training Programme- Subject knowledge enhancement and skill development programme.

This is a 3 session training programme starting on: Wednesday 25th April – 9-3pm, venue: Nutgrove Primary School, Nutgrove Rd, Saint Helens WA9 5JJ.

Primary Maths CPD opportunities in the summer term 2018

NW Maths Hub 3 is offering the following Primary Maths CPD opportunities in the summer term 2018 (please see attached for further details)

Achieving Greater Depth in a Mastery Context- starting in June 2018

Project outcomes:

To explore how children can develop a deep understanding of big mathematical ideas

To have a range of strategies and ideas for applying skills with greater flexibility within age-related objectives

To share examples of how children’s outcomes may differ when working at greater depth

 

Teaching Assistant Training Programme- Subject knowledge enhancement and skill development programme- starting in April 2018

Project Outcomes:

Building the subject knowledge and pedagogy that promotes effective learning in mathematics

To support all children in their ability to reason mathematically and become independent learners

Establishing the role of the Teaching Assistant within a mastery maths curriculum

Empowering Teaching Assistants to be proactive in supporting mathematical learning

 

EYFS- Using a story/topic based approach to plan a mathematical sequence

Final session (3 of 3)- April 2018

Staff will explore mathematical concepts from 30-50 months to ensure they are meeting the ELGs

Staff will ensure progression is built into the lesson design through a creative approach based on story, awe and wonder!

Counting to ordering to calculation including making connections between other mathematical areas

 

Maths Subject leader network- Friday 22nd June

Focus:

Ensuring Challenge for Rapid graspers, effective mathematical transitions, meeting the needs of all learners- providing ‘keep up, not catch up’ interventions, plugging the gaps to ensuring curriculum needs are met and mathematical updates and current thinking.

Alliance members receive 25% of all training opportunities.

Secondary Maths CPD network- NEXT session MONDAY 23rd April

 

NW3 Maths Hub is pleased to offer an academic year of Teaching and Learning Maths CPD sessions for your whole department throughout 2017-18.

The next session is this week: Monday 23rd April

This will be delivered by: Craig Barton (Mr Barton Maths)

The session will take place at: Rainford High School, Higher Ln, Rainford, Saint Helens WA11 8NY, 4-6pm.

NW Maths Hub 3 – Primary Mastery Work Group Schools- APPLICATION ROUND NOW OPEN!

Dear Colleagues

In 2018-19, all Maths Hubs will be running primary mathematics Teaching for Mastery Work Groups led by Mastery Specialists. This programme is for schools who have a commitment to developing a teaching for mastery approach. Although the participation involves two teachers attending events outside of the school it is expected that these two teachers lead development across the whole school. Each Maths Hub is now seeking to recruit schools for Work Groups, each involving six or seven schools. This document gives information about the Work Groups and how schools can apply to be involved. The closing date for application is Friday 11th May at 4pm. Please email all applications to NW Maths Hub 3- lisa.bradshaw@three-saints.org.uk

Benefits for participating schools

Participating in the Work Group will provide the following benefits to participant schools:

  • High quality support for teacher professional development for the lead teachers, facilitated by the Mastery Specialist
  • Support for the head teacher in addressing leadership issues related to teaching for mastery from the Mastery Specialist and the Maths Hub’s leadership
  •  Opportunity to work closely with other schools also developing teaching for mastery
  • No charge for participation and a grant of £1000 to help subsidise teacher release time
  • Matched funding of £2000 to support the school in buying text books
